Pope Leo XIV Expresses Deep Concern for Lebanon, Middle East Churches

(MENAFN) Pope Pope Leo XIV voiced “deep concern” on Monday for the people of Lebanon and Christian communities across the Middle East during a meeting with Catholicos Aram I, according to reports.

During the discussions, the pope said he offers daily prayers for Lebanon and for churches throughout the region, emphasizing his continued attention to their situation.

“I assure you of my daily prayers and of the deep concern I feel for the people of Lebanon and for the churches of the Middle East,” he said.

He also reflected on his previous visit to Lebanon last December, highlighting the country’s long-standing tradition of coexistence among diverse religious communities.

The pope noted that Lebanon is currently undergoing what he described as “severe trials” and warned that its national unity and stability face renewed pressure.

According to Vatican sources, Catholicos Aram I, who leads the Armenian Apostolic Church jurisdiction covering multiple countries across the Middle East and beyond, held his first official meeting with Pope Leo XIV during this visit.
